Stack o' comics

Spent the weekend holed up with an enormous stack of comics (thanks Jess!). I think I went out twice-- something Saturday night and then a Wheat Thin run-- but otherwise just the couch and me. We're pals.

So the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, right? The first volume was like my ideal aesthetic-- this Asian/Victorian hybrid, brightly colored, with monsters, literary allusions, and futuristic submarines. So far, Volume II's a little more muted and Mars is getting involved. I'm not concerned yet, though everyone else seems to be.

Jesus it's snowing hard outside.

The League... I've always been curious about it. Is it a steampunk variant like the Gibson/Sterling collaboration "The Difference Engine"?

Steampunk! What a great term! I'm totally stealing that. In re: The Difference Engine, yeah sorta, in that reimagining our technological past kind of way. The League strikes me as more character driven, though. The tech stuff is much more incidental. Then again, with Alan Moore, nothing's ever incidental, so.
